Former Boston Celtics teammates anticipate emotional homecoming

WALTHAM After the Boston Celtics traded Rajon Rondo to the Dallas Mavericks, Brandon Bass wished his former teammate well. He told Rondo how much he enjoyed playing with him, plus whatever else one friend says to another after a basketball transaction pulls them apart.

"It was kind of sad, man," Bass admitted after Thursday's Kiko Alonso Eagles Jersey practice, Jordan Matthews Eagles Jersey one day before Rondo's emotional homecoming to the TD Garden. "I didn't want to keep talking to him about it. I kind of let it go, man. He said what he had to say, I said what I had to say.

"I didn't really get emotional, but I felt like if I would have kept talking about it I would have been like, 'Damn, man.' You know what I'm saying? I just Jordan Matthews Jersey kept it short and sweet."

After Rondo spent eight plus years in Boston, the Celtics traded him to Dallas two weeks ago. He will make his first trip to the TD Garden as a visitor Friday night, so soon after the deal, almost like the chance to remember Rondo is arriving immediately after he left.

"It's very quick," Bass said. "I kind of had it on the schedule. And I kind of never really look at the schedule, but I knew when he was coming back. And I realized it was fast."

Over his time in Boston, Rondo won a championship, earned four All Star berths, and helped the Celtics to another Eastern Conference Finals. He developed a reputation for rising to the occasion in big games, spun Evan Mathis Jersey together a slew of triple doubles and threw at least one or two passes per game that only a handful of people could replicate. He could also frustrate the Boston faithful, but he leaves third on the franchise list in steals and fourth in assists despite falling about three full seasons shy of the top 10 for minutes played.

As Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle told Dallas reporters earlier this week, "Boston is one of the great sports cities in the world, and the reason people in Boston identify with him is because of his uncompromising competitiveness and the fact that he's an absolute original. He's just a one of a kind player."

Some of the Celtics have been on the opposite side of emotional homecomings before. During their initial trips back to Boston last season, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers all received touching video tributes plus enormous ovations from the Boston fans. Head coach Brad Stevens allowed his players to spend timeouts watching those tributes Kiko Alonso Jersey and plans to do the same with Rondo.

"It's important for us that were teammates of his to acknowledge him," Stevens said, "I think that's really important."

"I think it will feel very similar (to the other tributes)," Stevens continued. "He did a ton for this organization and this community, and I'm certain that it will be an emotional night for everybody. I'm really happy for him because he's playing really well and they're playing really well. He'll get a great reception (Friday), there's no question Authentic Kiko Alonso Jersey about it."

Will Rondo cry? During recent comments about his return, he said he will try to hold back tears.

Added former teammate Jared Sullinger: "I don't think so. I hope he doesn't. He's so strong minded that I probably doubt that he cries.

"I just love the way our fans act toward former basketball players, football players, soccer players, hockey players, around here in the professional sports. I just love how they act.

"They act with so much pride, joy, love. I just appreciate what they do for guys that come back and play against the Celtics after they get done with their little stint with the Celtics. I Authentic Evan Mathis Jersey just think it's big time Authentic Jordan Matthews Jersey on their part. It shows a lot of class, it shows a lot of loyalty. And I just want to thank them for that."

Bass was close with Rondo after three and a half seasons together.

me it just a regular game. It another game," the power forward said. "But I know for Rondo it's going to be a big deal. Someone who spent the first 9 years of his Evan Mathis Eagles Jersey career here, won a championship, kind of grew up in the city of Boston. I think it's going to be an emotional night for him."

Bass continued: "It was kind of, like, tough for me to watch the videos, man, when Paul (Pierce) came back. Especially when Paul came back because I just felt like Paul been here his whole life. And I thought it was very emotional for him, for KG (Garnett) as well. I don know, man. Rondo can wear a good mask sometimes, man, so he may be able to handle it well. /Article >
